BC STUDENT HEALTH CONSORTIUM

The BC Federation of Students helps operate health and dental plans at campuses across British Columbia to ensure students have access to high quality and affordable health and dental coverage.

The Federation works with Green Shield Canada, Canada’s leading not-for-profit insurance provider to offer students coverage on prescription drugs, dental procedures, paramedical services and vision care, among other things. In working together to manage health and dental plans for our members, we can ensure that students are getting the most coverage for the best rate.

Will you be continuing your studies next year? If not, don’t leave your extended health and dental benefits behind! Once you leave school you’ll no longer be covered by your students’ union’s health and dental plan. But don’t worry, your students’ union, the British Columbia Federation of Students (BCFS), and Prosum Health Benefits have partnered to offer affordable health and dental plans that you can access after you’re no longer a student.

The individual plans allow you the flexibility to choose your level of coverage and more importantly find coverage that fits your budget. There are no long-term contracts which means once you get coverage through an employer or if you choose to continue your studies you can cancel your plan with 30 days notice.

If you will not be returning, your coverage from your students’ union benefits plan ends 12 months after the start date of your program; once your coverage ends, you will have 90 days to apply for a GSC Health Assist plan. Click here to learn more about the plans available, or to start your application. For more information contact Prosum Health Benefits.

VIRTUAL HEALTH CARE

Finding time to visit a doctor while balancing your school schedule with everything else you have to do in a day can be a challenge. We know the last thing you want to do is get stuck in a waiting room while you're not feeling well or have an exam to study for, now you can easily speak to a doctor virtually, and if necessary have a prescription sent to a pharmacy of your choice.

GOeVisit: access medical appointments with a doctor or nurse practitioner through a secure web portal or mobile app 24 hours a day, seven days a week - they can diagnose and prescribe treatment for over 300 minor illnesses. Our partnership with GOeVisit waives the annual and per visit fees allowing you to access the service for free. Register on the BCFS GOeVisit platform to get started.
