Hey everyone,

You might have heard that there’s a provincial election this Fall, and if you’re anything like me, you’re probably thinking about what’s at stake. The chatter around voting is growing louder, and it’s not just noise—it’s a call to action. This year, young people like us have the opportunity to make a real difference, and our votes will be the deciding factor.

The BC Federation of Students has just launched the Generation Vote Now campaign, and it’s all about making sure your voice is heard at the polls. Students’ unions across the province will be on your campuses to talk to you about why your vote matters, and to help answer all your voting questions.

Here’s why this matters so much:

1. Your Vote Can Decide the Election

In the last provincial election, some ridings were decided by only a few hundred votes. That’s not just a statistic—it’s a reminder of the power each of us holds. With millennials now making up the largest voting bloc in Canada, your vote is crucial. This is your chance to step up and influence the future of our province.

2. Youth are not Apathetic

Contrary to any stereotype that might suggest otherwise, young people are deeply engaged and passionate about the issues that affect us all. From skyrocketing tuition fees to the affordability crisis, these aren’t just abstract problems—they’re real challenges that impact our daily lives. Generation Vote Now is here to ensure that our voices are not only heard but acted upon.

3. We’re More Than Just a Statistic

The campaign recognizes that young voters are diverse and have a wide range of concerns. That’s why candidates and political parties need to be speaking directly to us about how they plan to address the issues that matter to us.

4. It’s About Building a Habit of Voting

Once you vote, you’re more likely to keep voting, and to inspire others to do the same. The Generation Vote Now campaign aims to make voting a natural and empowering part of your life. By participating, you’re not just influencing this election—you’re contributing to a more engaged and informed electorate for years to come.

5. Get Involved and Get Informed

The campaign isn’t simply telling you to vote, it’s also giving you the tools to make an informed decision. Whether it’s through social media, accessible voting information, or facilitating direct conversations with candidates in your community, the Federation and your students’ union are here to support you every step of the way.
