With the sudden move to online classes, physical isolation, and loss or reduction of employment, this is a really hard time for students. I get it.

But we are all in this together. Staying home and not hanging out with others is incredibly important to slowing the spread of COVID-19 and together we are making an impact.

The BCFS and students’ unions around the province have been working hard these past several weeks. I want to share with you some of the resources that we have compiled, and that your students’ union may be offering, in this difficult time.

The Provincial and Federal Governments have announced a huge amount of supports and relief programs, and it can be hard to keep them all straight. That’s why we’ve pulled together information most relevant to students and put them on our website. Check it out to make sure you’re aware of supports available to you.

Even while working from home, students’ union directors and staff have been working hard to provide services and resources for you in these hard times. There are so many awesome ideas going around about how to stay socially connected while staying physically apart and these have turned into some excellent resources – things like playing self-care bingo. Be sure to check out your students’ union’s website and social media to see what your students’ union is providing.

There are so many other things that you can do to keep connected like…

Join a Netflix party!

Play board games online!

Hang out with friends on the House Party app!

And so many more creative and fun things coming out every day.

It is super important to take care of yourself right now. That includes staying physically active, whatever way you can. Go for a walk if you’re able, look up a home workout routine, or join an online fitness class. A lot of fitness studios are live-streaming workouts that you can do from home. The BCFS has partnered with Hustle to provide students with a discounted rate on their online classes through our Deals App. You can download the Deals App from the App Store or from Google Play.

My BCFS team is working hard – remotely, with a lot of Zoom meetings – to make sure that you, our members, are getting the most up-to-date information about new resources becoming available. so please make sure you’re following our social media to see our regular updates.

Remember: you’re not in this alone. Stay safe, healthy, and social (with distance). Together we are making a difference, and the more we do now, the sooner things will return to normal.

In solidarity,

Tanysha Klassen
